Supplying Medical-Grade Seamless Copper Tubes for a Leading Japanese Hospital
Project Overview
Location: New General Hospital in Osaka City Center, Japan
Client: A Major Japanese Medical Construction Group
Products Supplied: ASTM B819 C12200 Medical-Grade Deoxidized Copper Seamless Tubes
Supply Scope: Over 15,000 meters, including piping for medical oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, and vacuum systems.
The Challenges
In Japan, medical facility construction standards are renowned globally for their rigor. The client faced unprecedented challenges in building the hospital’s life-support gas delivery system:
Extreme Internal Cleanliness Requirements: Medical gases (such as oxygen, nitrous oxide) must be 100% pure. Any trace of oil, dust, or oxide particles could lead to patient infection or equipment malfunction. Standards set by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare far exceed typical industrial demands.
High-Standard Airtightness and Safety: Medical gas systems require zero leakage over an ultra-long lifespan (50+ years) and must withstand high-pressure shocks in emergency situations.
Precision Installation & Certification: Due to the complex piping layout, installation involved extensive precision brazing. Therefore, consistent tube dimensions and controlled brazing shrinkage were critical. All materials also required comprehensive JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) and third-party certification reports.
Our Detailed Solution
Addressing the extreme pursuit of “cleanliness” and “safety” in the Japanese medical project, we implemented a multi-dimensional, high-standard customized supply solution:
A. Ultra-Clean Manufacturing & Degreasing Process
Our copper tubes were produced under controlled dust-free environments. Before shipment, they underwent multi-stage ultrasonic degreasing and nitrogen purging. The carbon residue on the inner wall of each tube was strictly controlled to below 0.02g/m² (significantly better than the ASTM B819 standard of 0.034g/m²). All tube ends were physically protected with sealed caps to prevent contamination during transportation and storage.
B. Rigorous Material & Defect Inspection
Phosphorus Deoxidized Copper C12200: We selected high-purity Deoxidized High Phosphorus (DHP) Copper material to ensure its excellent brazing properties and Hydrogen Embrittlement Resistance.
In-line Eddy Current Testing: Each copper tube underwent 100% in-line Eddy Current Testing before leaving the factory, precisely identifying and eliminating any surface or internal defects that could lead to micro-leaks.
C. Customized Dimensions & Packaging Services
Based on the client’s design blueprints, we provided precision cutting services to minimize unnecessary on-site cutting and waste. Each bundle of copper tubes was individually vacuum-packed and affixed with clear traceability labels, indicating batch, specifications, and production date, facilitating strict inventory management and quality traceability for the client.
D. Comprehensive Certification & Technical Support
We provided complete JIS H3300 standard compliance reports and detailed third-party laboratory test reports (including chemical composition, mechanical properties, and residual carbon content), ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements for medical device market entry in Japan.
Results & Customer Value
This project has become a landmark medical facility in Osaka, where our copper tubes played a crucial role:
Zero Contamination Installation: Due to the extremely high internal cleanliness of the copper tubes and thorough end protection, no additional cleaning procedures were required during on-site installation, shortening the construction period by 15%.
Enhanced System Stability: The hospital’s gas supply system underwent a rigorous one-year monitoring period after commissioning, achieving zero incidents of pressure fluctuations or leaks caused by material quality issues.
Client Trust & Long-term Partnership: Given this successful collaboration, the medical construction group has listed us as a “Preferred Supplier” on their global roster and has initiated discussions for collaboration on other medical projects in Asia.
